Description
Train Canada Geese to Stop Feeding on Your Lawn
Flight Control Plus is a foliar-applied goose repellent designed to discourage Canada geese from feeding on treated turf around lake homes, pond properties, parks, golf courses, sports fields, commercial landscapes and other labeled grassy areas.
The active ingredient, 9,10-anthraquinone, creates a learned feeding aversion. After geese graze on properly treated grass, they associate the treated feeding area with an unpleasant experience and begin looking for another place to feed.
Anthraquinone also provides a visual cue that geese can perceive differently than people, helping reinforce the association between treated turf and the feeding consequence.
Instead of chasing geese every time they arrive, Flight Control Plus targets one of the main reasons they repeatedly return to lakefront lawns: easy access to short, attractive turf for feeding.
Deny Geese Their Favorite Feeding Area
Treat the Grass Geese Keep Coming Back to Eat
Canada geese are strongly attracted to short turf next to open water. Lakefront lawns give them food, visibility and a quick escape route back to the lake.
Flight Control Plus is applied directly to the turf in those feeding zones. Rather than trying to make the entire lake undesirable, the treatment makes the land-based food source less attractive.
Geese may still use the lake itself, especially during the first few days. The goal is to condition them to avoid feeding on the treated lawn and reduce repeated grazing, droppings and daytime congregation in the maintained area.
Lakefront Lawns
Treat grassy shoreline areas where geese repeatedly leave the water to feed.
Parks & Public Turf
The label includes turf areas such as park grounds and municipal sites.
Sports Fields
Protect turf where goose grazing and droppings interfere with recreational use.
Golf Courses
Golf-course turf is specifically included among the labeled application sites.

Features
Flight Control Plus Features
50% Anthraquinone
The current EPA label lists 9,10-anthraquinone as 50% of the formulation, equal to approximately 4.9 lb of active ingredient per gallon.
Foliar Turf Treatment
Flight Control Plus is applied to the grass leaf surface where geese actively feed.
Learned Avoidance
Geese associate the treated feeding area with an unpleasant feeding response and learn to avoid it.
Visual Reinforcement
Anthraquinone provides a visual cue that geese can detect, reinforcing their learned avoidance of treated turf.
Home Lawns
Home lawns are specifically listed among the labeled turf-use sites.
Multiple Sprayer Types
Properly calibrated pump-driven, boom, spray-gun, backpack and compressed-air sprayers can be used according to label guidance.
How It Works
How Flight Control Plus Repels Geese
- Identify the feeding area.
Look for concentrated droppings and repeatedly grazed turf. The label refers to these active problem areas as "drop zones." - Apply Flight Control Plus to the grass.
Use a properly calibrated sprayer and a medium-fine to fine spray pattern to evenly coat the turf leaf surface. - Allow the application to dry.
Keep people and pets off the treated area until it is completely dry. - Geese return and graze.
The birds must experience the treated turf for the conditioning process to occur. - The treated area becomes undesirable.
The anthraquinone creates a feeding aversion and a visual cue associated with the treated turf. - Geese begin feeding elsewhere.
As conditioning develops, the treated property becomes less attractive as a feeding location. - Maintain the treatment when needed.
Mowing removes treated leaf tissue, and renewed goose pressure may require another labeled application.
Rates & Coverage
Flight Control Plus Application Rates
The initial rate and maintenance rate are different. Do not begin a new goose-management program using the lower maintenance rate.
| Application | Product Rate | Approx. Product per 1,000 ft² | Approx. Coverage per Quart |
|---|---|---|---|
| Initial Application | 1 gallon per acre 1 quart per 1/4 acre |
Approx. 2.9 fl oz | Approx. 10,890 ft² |
| Subsequent Applications | 1/2 gallon per acre 1/2 quart per 1/4 acre |
Approx. 1.5 fl oz | Approx. 21,780 ft² |
Carrier Water
For pump-driven turf applications, the label recommends mixing the required product rate into approximately 6-20 gallons of total tank mix per acre, depending on the properly calibrated spray equipment.
The objective is not to soak the soil. Flight Control Plus needs to remain on the leafy grass surface where geese will encounter it while feeding.
Reapplication
How Often Should Flight Control Plus Be Reapplied?
14-21 Day Intervals
The EPA label allows subsequent applications at approximately 14-21 day intervals or as required by goose activity and seasonal migration.
Maximum 7 Per Year
The current label states not to apply Flight Control Plus more than seven times per year.
Mowing Removes Product
Each mowing removes treated leaf surface and reduces the amount of repellent available to grazing geese.
2-3 Mowings
Application guidance indicates that during actively growing turf conditions, an application may remain effective through approximately two to three mowings.
How to Apply
How to Apply Flight Control Plus Correctly
- Locate the active drop zone.
Treat grassy areas where geese repeatedly feed and where droppings show the greatest activity. - Mow before treatment.
Mow the turf and remove leaves, grass clippings and other debris before applying. - Make sure the turf is dry.
Do not apply to wet grass. - Shake or stir the concentrate.
Flight Control Plus can separate while sitting and must be thoroughly resuspended before dilution. - Measure the correct product rate.
Use 1 gallon per acre for an initial application or the labeled lower rate for qualifying subsequent applications. - Add the appropriate amount of water.
Use a properly calibrated sprayer and enough carrier water to achieve even foliar coverage without runoff. - Maintain agitation.
Keep the tank mixture agitated or recirculating because the active ingredient is heavier than water and can settle. - Apply a medium-fine to fine spray.
Coat the turf leaf blades evenly rather than flooding the soil. - Allow the turf to dry.
Keep people and pets out of the treated area until the application has dried. - Monitor goose activity.
Allow several days for conditioning and make another labeled application when required.
Sprayer Setup
Sprayer & Droplet Guidance
Application quality is critical. Flight Control Plus must remain on the turf leaf blade where grazing geese can encounter it.
Boom Sprayer
Boom-type equipment is recommended for uniform treatment of larger turf areas when properly calibrated.
Spray Gun
Suitable calibrated spray guns can be used to produce the required medium-fine to fine turf coverage.
Backpack Sprayer
Backpack or compressed-air sprayers can be used for small or hard-to-reach areas when they are correctly calibrated.
Fine Foliar Coverage
The objective is a visible fine coating on the turf leaf rather than large droplets that run down into the soil.
Weather & Mowing
Rain, Irrigation, Mowing & Drying Time
| Condition | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Wet Grass | Do not apply when the surface to be treated is wet. |
| Rain Expected | Do not apply when rain is expected before the treatment can thoroughly dry. |
| Drying Time | Application guidance says the product may require up to approximately 4 hours to dry on the turf leaf blade. |
| Irrigation | Avoid applying immediately before an irrigation cycle. Allow the product to dry first. |
| Wind | Avoid windy conditions that can interfere with even turf coverage or cause spray drift. |
| Mowing | Mow before treatment when practical. Mowing after application removes treated leaf surface and reduces effectiveness. |

FAQs
Flight Control Plus Goose Repellent FAQs
What is Flight Control Plus?
Flight Control Plus is an EPA-registered foliar goose repellent containing 50% 9,10-anthraquinone. It is applied to labeled turf where geese feed.
What is the EPA registration number?
Flight Control Plus is EPA Reg. No. 69969-1.
How does Flight Control Plus work?
Geese graze on treated turf and learn to associate that feeding area with an undesirable experience. Anthraquinone also creates a visual cue that helps reinforce avoidance of the treated grass.
Does Flight Control Plus kill geese?
It is intended as a repellent and conditioning tool, not as a product for killing geese. It discourages feeding on treated turf.
Can I use Flight Control Plus on my lakefront lawn?
Yes. Home lawns are included among the labeled turf-use sites. Apply only according to the current product label and avoid direct application to the water.
Can I spray Flight Control Plus into my lake or pond?
No. Flight Control Plus is a turf treatment. It should not be applied directly to lakes or ponds, and water should not be contaminated during mixing, equipment cleaning or disposal.
What is the initial application rate?
The current federal label calls for 1 gallon of Flight Control Plus per treated acre, or 1 quart per 1/4 acre, for the initial application.
What is the maintenance application rate?
After geese have been conditioned to avoid the treated area, subsequent same-year applications may be reduced to 1/2 gallon per acre, or 1/2 quart per 1/4 acre.
How much area will one quart cover?
At the initial rate, one quart treats approximately 1/4 acre, or 10,890 square feet. At the lower subsequent rate, one quart represents enough product for approximately 1/2 acre, or 21,780 square feet.
How much product do I need for 5,000 square feet?
At the initial 1-gallon-per-acre rate, approximately 14.7 fluid ounces of product are required for 5,000 square feet. A qualifying subsequent application at the 1/2-gallon-per-acre rate would use approximately half that amount.
How much water do I mix with Flight Control Plus?
For pump-driven applications, current label guidance recommends approximately 6-20 gallons of total tank mix per acre depending on the calibrated spraying equipment. Use enough carrier water to coat the turf leaf without creating runoff.
Does Flight Control Plus need to stay mixed?
Yes. Shake or stir the concentrate before dilution and maintain agitation or recirculation during spraying because the active ingredient can settle.
Can I use a backpack sprayer?
Yes. Current application guidance permits a backpack or compressed-air sprayer for smaller or difficult-to-access areas when the sprayer is properly calibrated and produces the correct fine foliar coverage.
What kind of spray pattern should I use?
Apply a medium-fine to fine spray that evenly coats the grass leaf surface. Large coarse droplets can run off the leaf and reduce effectiveness.
Should I mow before applying?
Yes. Current application guidance recommends mowing the turf and removing leaves, grass clippings and other debris before treatment.
Can I mow right after applying?
Mowing removes treated leaf surface and reduces the amount of repellent available to grazing geese, so treatment is generally best applied after mowing.
How long does an application last?
There is no guaranteed full-season duration. During actively growing turf conditions, application guidance indicates that treatment may persist through approximately two to three mowings. Goose pressure and growing conditions also affect timing.
How often can I reapply?
Subsequent applications may be made at approximately 14-21 day intervals or as required by goose activity and anticipated migration, subject to the label maximum.
How many times can I apply it per year?
The current EPA label states not to apply Flight Control Plus more than seven times per year.
Can I apply before rain?
No. The label states not to apply when the turf is wet or when rain is expected. The application must thoroughly dry on the turf surface.
How long does Flight Control Plus take to dry?
Application guidance says drying on the turf leaf can require up to approximately four hours depending on conditions.
Can I irrigate after application?
Do not apply immediately before an irrigation cycle. Allow the treatment to dry on the grass first.
Can people walk on the lawn after spraying?
People and pets must stay off the treated area until the application has dried.
Is Flight Control Plus completely non-toxic?
It should not be described that way. The EPA label carries the signal word CAUTION and states that the concentrate is harmful if inhaled or absorbed through the skin and causes moderate eye irritation. Follow all PPE and handling requirements.
What PPE do I need?
The current label requires handlers to wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, socks, shoes and chemical-resistant gloves that meet the label specifications.
How quickly will geese leave?
Conditioning takes time. Current application guidance says geese may remain on or near the site for the first 1-3 days while they experience and learn from the treatment.
Will Flight Control Plus keep geese out of the lake?
No. The product is designed to make treated turf undesirable as a feeding area. Geese may still use open water, particularly while they are learning to avoid the adjacent grass.
Will it prevent geese from nesting?
Do not rely on Flight Control Plus as a nesting-control product. During nesting season, treatment may primarily control where geese feed. Flightless young can also prevent a family group from leaving the property completely.
Can I spray sidewalks and patios where geese leave droppings?
No. The Flight Control Plus turf label states not to apply it to sidewalks, parking lots or patios. Treat the adjacent feeding turf instead.
Can I use it when temperatures are below freezing?
Current application guidance describes use when temperatures are above freezing. The product should also be protected from freezing during storage.
Can Flight Control Plus separate in the container?
Yes. The label notes that separation can occur. Thoroughly shake or stir the product before mixing and maintain agitation during spraying.
Is Flight Control Plus registered in every state?
State pesticide registrations and sale restrictions can vary. Confirm that Flight Control Plus is registered for sale and use in your state before ordering or applying it.
Can I combine Flight Control Plus with other goose deterrents?
Flight Control Plus can serve as the feeding-deterrent portion of a broader goose-management program. Visual deterrents, habitat changes and other lawful nonlethal approaches may help address goose behavior beyond turf feeding.
