Description
Automatically Turn Your Kasco De-Icer On When Temperatures Drop
The Kasco C-10 is a simple temperature-based controller designed to automatically operate one 120V Kasco De-Icer as outdoor air temperatures rise and fall.
Instead of leaving your dock de-icer running continuously throughout the winter, set the Kasco C-10 thermostat to the temperature where you want de-icing operation to begin. When the outdoor air temperature falls to the selected setting, the controller turns the connected de-icer on automatically.
When temperatures rise approximately 2.5°F above the selected setting, the controller shuts the de-icer off. This automatic temperature response helps reduce unnecessary operating time while keeping the de-icer ready for freezing conditions.
The Kasco C-10 works well for docks, piers, boat slips, boathouses, pilings, marinas, waterfront structures, and other locations where automatic temperature-based de-icer control is preferred.
Simple Automatic De-Icer Control
Set It Once, Then Adjust as Winter Conditions Change
The Kasco C-10 works on temperature fall. When outdoor air temperature reaches the temperature selected on the thermostat dial, the controller supplies power to the connected de-icer.
The thermostat uses an approximately 2.5°F differential. If the controller turns the de-icer on at 30°F, it will remain on until the outdoor temperature rises to approximately 32.5°F.
This differential helps prevent the controller from rapidly switching on and off when air temperature is hovering around one exact point.
Kasco recommends an initial activation setting of approximately 30°F. Actual settings should be adjusted for your freshwater, saltwater, or brackish-water conditions and the results you observe at your dock.
A Good Starting Point
Start near 30°F, then watch the open-water area and adjust the thermostat based on local weather, water temperature, wind, snow, depth, and ice formation.
0°F to 80°F Range
The broad thermostat range lets the controller be adjusted for different climates and operating requirements.
2.5°F Differential
Once activated, the thermostat remains on until the temperature rises approximately 2.5°F above the selected setting.
8-Foot Power Cord
The Kasco C-10 includes an approximately 8-foot connected power cord for flexible outdoor placement.
One De-Icer Per Controller
Each Kasco C-10 is designed to operate one compatible Kasco De-Icer.

How It Works
How the Kasco C-10 Thermostat Works
The Kasco C-10 monitors outdoor ambient air temperature and controls power to the connected de-icer based on the temperature selected on the thermostat dial.
Temperature Falls
When outdoor air temperature drops to the selected thermostat setting, the Kasco C-10 turns the de-icer on.
De-Icer Circulates Water
The connected Kasco De-Icer begins moving warmer subsurface water toward the surface to help maintain an open-water area.
Temperature Rises
The de-icer remains powered until outdoor air temperature rises approximately 2.5°F above the thermostat setting.
Controller Shuts Off
Once the differential is reached, the Kasco C-10 removes power from the de-icer until temperatures fall again.
Setup
How to Set Up the Kasco C-10
- Mount the controller vertically.
Secure the Kasco C-10 upright on a wall, post, dock structure, or other suitable vertical surface. - Keep it out of direct sunlight.
Direct solar heating can make the thermostat sense a temperature warmer than the surrounding air. - Mount it above the snow line.

Winter Operating Tips
Get Better Results From the Kasco C-10 and Your De-Icer
The thermostat setting is only one part of successful de-icing. Water depth, de-icer size, mounting angle, current, snow, wind, air temperature, and water temperature can all change the amount of open water created.
Start Near 30°F
A thermostat setting near 30°F is a practical starting point for many freshwater installations. Adjust it based on actual results.
Favor Longer Operation
A de-icer needs time to develop localized water circulation. Longer operating cycles are generally more effective than repeatedly starting and stopping for short periods.
Check After Weather Changes
Heavy snow, stronger wind, falling air temperatures, and shifting ice can change de-icing performance.
Inspect Daily
Check your dock, open-water area, de-icer position, power supply, and ice conditions every day during winter operation.
