Description

Lake Weed Cleanup Fork

Lift Cut Lake Weeds, Algae & Shoreline Debris Out of the Water

The Lake Weed Pitch Fork is an ultra-lightweight manual cleanup tool built for picking up piles of cut aquatic weeds, floating vegetation, algae and shoreline debris around beaches, docks and swimming areas.

Its large 16" × 12" reinforced rounded basket gives you more collection area than a traditional narrow pitchfork while allowing excess water to drain away as the weeds are lifted from the shoreline.

Designed to carry up to 30 lb of collected aquatic vegetation, the Lake Weed Pitch Fork makes it easier to move wet weed piles without repeatedly bending down and handling slimy vegetation by hand.

Use it as the cleanup step after a WeedShear, lake weed cutter, rake or other aquatic weed-removal tool has cut, loosened or gathered nuisance vegetation.

The 16" × 12" reinforced basket is designed for lifting and carrying cut lake weeds and shoreline debris.

Cut the Weeds. Gather Them. Pitch Them Out.

1. Cut Use a lake weed cutter or pulling tool to separate nuisance vegetation from the lake or pond bottom.
2. Gather Use a lake rake or water movement to bring the loose vegetation toward shore.
3. Lift Slide the wide basket beneath the pile and lift the collected weeds out of the water.
4. Remove Carry the vegetation away from the shoreline so it does not wash back into the water and continue decomposing.
A Better Way to Handle Weed Piles

Stop Picking Up Wet Lake Weeds by Hand

Cut aquatic weeds often float to the surface or collect in heavy piles along the shoreline. Picking them up one handful at a time is messy, slow and requires constant bending.

The Lake Weed Pitch Fork is designed specifically for that cleanup step. Its broad rounded basket lets you get underneath a pile of wet vegetation and move more material with each lift.

It works especially well after cutting watermilfoil, pondweed, hydrilla and other submerged vegetation, or after a lake rake has pulled loose weeds, algae and debris into a pile near shore.

CUT

Cut Weed Piles

Collect aquatic vegetation after a weed cutter has separated it from the lake or pond bottom.

FLOAT

Floating Weeds

Lift floating vegetation and weed mats that drift into reachable shoreline areas.

ALGAE

Coarse Algae

Pick up manageable clumps of algae that stay together well enough to remain in the basket.

BEACH

Beach Cleanup

Move piles of vegetation and organic debris away from beaches, docks and swimming areas.

The Lake Weed Pitch Fork is a collection tool, not a dedicated weed cutter. Use a cutter, puller or rake when vegetation is still rooted. The pitch fork works best once the weeds are loose and ready to be lifted from the water.

Best Uses

Where the Lake Weed Pitch Fork Works Best

After Cutting Lake Weeds

Collect floating weeds after using a WeedShear, serrated weed cutter or another aquatic vegetation cutting tool.

After Raking

Use a lake rake to gather vegetation into a manageable pile, then use the pitch fork to lift and carry it away.

Dock Cleanup

Remove loose vegetation that accumulates beside docks and other accessible waterfront areas.

Swimming Areas

Pick up cut weeds and floating vegetation near shallow swimming zones and beach entrances.

Chara Cleanup

Collect loosened Chara and similar vegetation once it has been brought into a reachable shoreline area.

Floating Weed Mats

Lift loose mats and clusters of cut vegetation after they drift or are raked toward shore.

Cut vs. Collect

The Pitch Fork Handles the Cleanup Half of Weed Removal

Manual aquatic weed removal usually involves two separate jobs: separating the vegetation from the bottom and getting the loose vegetation completely out of the water.

Job Best Tool Type What It Does
Cut Rooted Weeds WeedShear / Serrated Weed Cutter Cuts stems and vegetation below the water surface.
Pull or Uproot Weeds T-Weeder / Weed Puller Grabs or disturbs vegetation so more of the plant can be removed.
Gather Loose Weeds RakeZilla Pulls floating or cut vegetation toward shore and consolidates it into piles.
Lift Weed Piles Lake Weed Pitch Fork Lifts gathered piles of wet aquatic vegetation from the water for disposal.
Easy workflow: Cut or pull the weeds, gather them toward shore with a rake, then use the Lake Weed Pitch Fork to lift and carry the vegetation away.

How to Use

How to Use the Lake Weed Pitch Fork

  1. Cut or loosen the weeds.
Use the appropriate aquatic weed cutter, puller or rake to separate vegetation from the lake bottom.
  2. Bring the vegetation toward shore.
Allow cut weeds to float in or use a lake rake to gather them into a manageable pile.
  3. Position the basket underneath.
Slide the rounded basket beneath the loose vegetation.
  4. Lift smoothly.
Allow excess water to drain while raising the basket.
  5. Carry manageable loads.
The fork is designed to carry up to approximately 30 lb of collected vegetation, but lighter loads are often easier to control.
  6. Move the vegetation away from the shoreline.
Place removed plant material far enough from the water that waves, rain or runoff will not immediately carry it back into the lake.
  7. Repeat as needed.
Work through large weed piles in manageable sections.
Why remove the cut weeds? Large piles of vegetation left in the lake eventually decompose, adding organic material back into the waterfront and contributing to future debris and muck.

What It Collects

What Can You Pick Up With the Lake Weed Pitch Fork?

Material Suitability Best Approach
Cut Aquatic Weeds Excellent Gather them into piles first, then lift them from shore or shallow water.
Watermilfoil Excellent After Cutting Cut or rake the vegetation loose before collecting it.
Pondweed Excellent After Cutting Collect loose stems and vegetation once they have been brought near shore.
Hydrilla / Elodea-Type Vegetation Good After Cutting Use the basket to collect loose material rather than trying to cut rooted plants with the fork.
Chara Good Useful for collecting loosened clumps in shallow accessible areas.
Floating Weed Mats Good Lift manageable floating piles as they reach the shoreline.
Coarse Algae Good Works best when algae forms clumps that remain together in the basket.
Leaves / Organic Debris Good Collect larger wet debris mixed with weed piles.
Fine Muck or Silt Poor Use a dedicated muck-removal or dredging solution instead.
Sand / Clay Not Intended The fork is designed for vegetation cleanup rather than bottom excavation.

Limitations

What the Lake Weed Pitch Fork Is Not Designed to Do

It Does Not Cut Rooted Weeds

Use a WeedShear, serrated cutter or other aquatic weed cutter when vegetation is still attached to the bottom.

It Does Not Dredge Muck

Fine muck, sludge and sediment require a dedicated muck-removal, circulation or dredging solution.

It Is Not a Long-Reach Rake

Use a lake rake when vegetation must first be gathered from farther out in the water.

It Is Not an Excavation Tool

Do not use the pitch fork as a digging or prying tool for rocks, compacted lake bottom or other immovable objects.

It Does Not Prevent Regrowth

Removing cut weeds cleans the shoreline but does not prevent remaining roots, fragments or seeds from producing future growth.

It Is a Manual Tool

Large-scale weed-removal projects may require powered equipment, repeated labor or a larger mechanical harvesting approach.

FAQs

Lake Weed Pitch Fork FAQs

What is the Lake Weed Pitch Fork?

It is an ultra-lightweight aquatic weed cleanup fork with a reinforced 16" × 12" rounded basket designed for lifting piles of cut or loose lake weeds from beaches, docks and shorelines.

What size is the basket?

The reinforced rounded basket measures approximately 16 inches by 12 inches.

How much can the Lake Weed Pitch Fork carry?

It is designed to carry up to approximately 30 lb of collected aquatic vegetation.

Is the pitch fork heavy?

No. It is designed as an ultra-lightweight aquatic weed cleanup tool for repeated shoreline use.

Does the color always match the product photo?

No. Product colors may vary.

Can the Lake Weed Pitch Fork cut weeds?

It is primarily designed to collect loose aquatic vegetation rather than cut rooted weeds. Use a WeedShear, serrated cutter or another aquatic weed cutter first when vegetation is still attached to the bottom.

Can I use it after using a WeedShear?

Yes. WeedShear cuts the rooted vegetation, and the Lake Weed Pitch Fork can then be used to collect the loose weeds after they float or are gathered toward shore.

Can I use it with a lake rake?

Yes. Use the rake to pull vegetation into a pile, then use the pitch fork to lift and carry the pile away.

Can I collect floating weeds with it?

Yes. Floating vegetation and loose weed piles within safe reach of the shoreline are ideal applications.

Can I use it for Chara?

Yes. The fork can be used to collect loosened Chara after the vegetation has been pulled, raked or brought into an accessible shoreline area.

Can I use it for watermilfoil?

Yes, after the milfoil has been cut or loosened. The pitch fork is best used for collecting the vegetation rather than cutting rooted milfoil.

Will it pick up algae?

It can collect coarse or clumped algae when the material stays together well enough to remain in the basket. Fine suspended algae requires a different approach.

Can it remove leaves and shoreline debris?

Yes. Larger leaves and organic debris mixed with aquatic vegetation can be collected with the basket.

Will it remove lake muck?

It is not designed for muck dredging. Fine muck, sludge and silt require a different removal or treatment method.

Can I use it to dig sand or clay?

No. The Lake Weed Pitch Fork is intended for vegetation cleanup rather than lake-bottom excavation.

Is it good for beach cleanup?

Yes. Beaches and shoreline weed piles are among the best uses for the tool.

Can I use it around a dock?

Yes. Loose vegetation that collects within safe reach of a dock can be lifted and removed with the pitch fork.

Why should I remove weeds after cutting them?

Removing the cut vegetation keeps large weed piles from washing back into the swimming area or decomposing along the shoreline.

Where should I put the weeds after removing them?

Move removed vegetation far enough from the water that waves, rain and runoff will not immediately carry the material back into the lake or pond.

Should I buy a pitch fork or a lake rake?

They perform different jobs. A lake rake gathers vegetation from a larger area and pulls it toward shore. The pitch fork is better for lifting the resulting piles and carrying them away.

Should I buy a pitch fork or a WeedShear?

Use WeedShear when you need to cut rooted aquatic weeds. Use the Lake Weed Pitch Fork when the vegetation is already loose and needs to be collected. Using both creates a simple cut-and-cleanup system.

Is there a package with both WeedShear and the Pitch Fork?

Yes. Weeders Digest offers a WeedShear and Lake Weed Pitch Fork package for customers who want both a cutting tool and a cleanup tool.

Is there a package with a serrated cutter and the Pitch Fork?

Yes. A Serrated Edge Lake Weed Cutter and Pitch Fork Kit is also available.

What is the MPN?

The MPN is Tuff-Fork.

Where can I get help choosing lake weed removal tools?

Contact Weeders Digest Product Support at 877-224-4899 with the type of weeds, size of the area, water depth and whether you need to cut, rake, pull or collect the vegetation.

I decided to purchase this item when I purchased the RakeZilla so that a companion could join in the effort of removing nuisance plants from our local lake. After its first outing I am glad that I added it to my order. This fork is easy to use and effective in gathering up the removed plant matter. I'll know more after the summer season, but am happy to recommend it already.

    Great for mulch!!

Posted by Val on 28th May 2021

I was looking for something light weight to help me pitch mulch out of a huge pile I had delivered. This is just the ticket! Especially because it’s so light weight and the tines on the fork part are sharp enough to get into a pile of mulch. This is an awesome tool!
