Why is the Floating Flame more than a cheap fire pit from Amazon, Home Depot, etc?
-It’s specifically designed to fit on a pontoon boat. It’s also designed to be stable and not top-heavy so waves/wakes won’t cause it to tip over.
-It’s specifically designed to be light, durable, and portable with handles on each side. Take it anywhere; patios, camping, ice fishing, tailgating, etc.
-All the metal is stainless steel so it won’t rust or corrode. The plastic base is made the same way a Yeti cooler is so it’s super durable and has special additives to make it UV protected and flame retardant.
-There’s a stainless cover you can place over the burner so it can be used as a table when the fire is not on.
-There are 4 cup holders and 2 phone storage compartments.
-The side pods can double as storage, garbage, and/or a cooler as there are drains on the bottom of each side pod.
-The 20lb grill tank is stored inside the main body so there isn’t a hose running to a tank sitting next to your fire pit causing a tripping hazard.
-Our unit goes through third-party certification testing to ensure it is built properly and is safe.
You won’t find any (let alone all) these features on a cheap-o Amazon or Home Depot propane fire pit.
Is this safe to use on my boat!?
First, the original pontoon boat fire pit concept was created about 10 years ago. Hundreds of units are in the field with many years of usage. The design and concept have been proven to be safe. Floating Flame has recently modernized the look and feel of the concept but kept the guts of the design the same.
All the propane components are CSA/UL certified to ensure they have been 3rd party tested for safety. Anything that the flame will be in contact with will be metal (and thus isn't a fire hazard). All of the plastic components (which are lower on the unit and don't even get warm during operation) are UL-listed fire retardant materials just for over-the-top peace of mind.
All Floating Flame fire pits have been tested to ANSI standard Z21.97-2017 which covers Outdoor Gas Appliances to ensure safety.
Propane BBQ grills have been used on boats for decades. Our fire pit uses basically the same components but is arranged differently. We think the fire pit is far safer as it's not meant for cooking greasy burgers on.
Lastly, since a boat fire pit is a newer concept, Floating Flame is working with the NMMA (National Marine Manufacturers Association) to write a new official standard for fire pits on boats.
Safety is our number once concern and for the many reasons above we can safely say that we have 100% confidence in our products safety. Ben, the owner of Floating Flame, has personally used his fire pit since 2016!
