FAQ

FAQs

What exactly does the Macro‑Zyme Muck Block do?

It releases high‑concentration, facultative anaerobic bacteria that feed on organic muck (dead vegetation, fish waste, leaves) on the bottom of your lake or pond. They help reduce sludge, odors and nutrient buildup.

When and where should I deploy the block?

Deploy it in calm water, after you’ve cleared heavy debris if possible. Use when water temperature is ≧ ~55‑60 °F so bacteria are active.

How long will one block last and what size water body does it treat?

One 6‑lb block treats up to about 6 acre‑feet of water (≈ one acre surface at 6 ft deep) and typically works for about 30 days before reapplication is recommended.

Is the product safe for fish, plants, pets and the surrounding ecosystem?

Yes. It is non‑chemical, non‑toxic, formulated to work with the ecosystem and safe for aquatic life, pets, people and plants.

Will I see immediate results after placing it?

Some effects (such as odor reduction) may be seen quickly (within days), but full bottom‑muck reduction is gradual. Expect visible improvement over weeks as bacteria process organics.

Do I need to combine this block with aeration or circulation for best results?

Yes. Although the block works independently, adding aeration/circulation enhances distribution of bacteria, increases oxygen, and improves results—especially in heavy muck zones.

What maintenance or follow‑up is required after using it?

Monitor the area: clear out floating debris, check bottom condition, and after ~30 days either reapply or switch to a spot treatment (pucks) if conditions are better. Also continue managing nutrient inputs (runoff, leaves).

Does it replace mechanical removal (raking/harvesting) of muck?

It greatly reduces the workload but doesn’t always completely replace mechanical removal—especially with deep built‑up muck layers. It’s a biological approach that complements physical removal and chemical treatments if needed.

Can I use this product in shallow swim areas or near docks?

Yes. It’s safe for swim zones and near docks. For targeted shallow zones you might use pucks rather than the large block for localized treatment.

What common mistakes should I avoid?
  • Applying when water is too cold (<50‑55 °F) which reduces bacterial action.
  • Placing the block in very turbid or highly silted water without first reducing debris.
  • Ensure power cable and lighting cable are properly routed and secured.
  • Neglecting nutrient inputs (runoff, leaf load) while relying solely on the block.
  • Expecting overnight full cleanup—progress takes time.
