Description

Bluetooth Tip Up Alarm & Ice Fishing Strike Alert

BlueTipz Bluetooth Tip Up Alarm Sends Ice Fishing Alerts to Your Phone

The BlueTipz MAX 22 is a wireless tip up alarm that adds Bluetooth strike detection to compatible tip-ups, tip-downs, rattle reels, and other fishing setups.

When your tip-up activates, the Blue Tipz tip up alarm uses Bluetooth Low Energy to send a strike alert directly to the free BlueTipz app on a compatible iOS or Android smartphone.

For anglers looking for a Bluetooth tip up or Bluetooth ice fishing tip up alert system, BlueTipz lets you monitor multiple fishing setups without continuously walking from hole to hole to visually check every flag.

Unlike a cellular-based device, this Bluetooth fishing alarm does not require cellular service or Wi-Fi for transmitter-to-phone communication. Your compatible phone simply needs Bluetooth enabled and must remain within usable wireless range.

The current MAX transmitter has a manufacturer-listed range of up to approximately 1,000 feet to a compatible smartphone. Add the optional BlueTipz Receiver to extend the network and improve signal reliability in challenging fishing locations.

How It Works

How the BlueTipz Tip Up Alarm Works

  1. Install the BlueTipz app.
Download the free BlueTipz mobile app on a compatible iOS or Android smartphone.
  2. Turn on Bluetooth and required permissions.
Make sure the phone settings needed by the BlueTipz app are enabled.
  3. Mount the transmitter to your tip-up.
Attach the BlueTipz transmitter to the moving portion of your compatible tip-up or use the appropriate adapter for another fishing system.
  4. Power on the transmitter.
Use the sealed glove-friendly button to turn on the unit.
  5. Turn on Scanning in the app.
The phone begins listening for BlueTipz transmitter activity.
  6. Set your tip-up or fishing device.
With a standard tip-up, the factory tip-up preset can normally be used without additional programming.
  7. A strike activates the Bluetooth tip up.
When the transmitter moves into its programmed trigger-angle zone, it begins broadcasting the strike event and blinking its LED.
  8. Your phone receives the tip-up alarm.
The BlueTipz app provides the configured notification while your phone remains within usable Bluetooth range.
Standard tip-up users usually do not need to change the programming. BlueTipz is programmed for a traditional tip-up configuration by default.

Compatible Setups

BlueTipz Works With More Than One Style of Ice Fishing Alarm Setup

Because BlueTipz uses a programmable accelerometer rather than one fixed mechanical switch, it can be configured for several compatible fishing devices.

Tip-Ups

Turn a compatible traditional tip-up into a Bluetooth ice fishing tip up with smartphone strike notifications.

Tip-Downs

Use the app's device presets or custom trigger-angle settings to configure compatible tip-down applications.

Rattle Reels

BlueTipz can be adapted for compatible rattle-reel systems using the proper setup and accessory.

Set Rods

The Bluetooth fishing alarm can also be used with compatible stationary rod setups for bank or dock fishing.

JawJacker & Similar Systems

Application-specific adapters can make BlueTipz usable with compatible non-standard fishing devices.

Custom Trigger Angles

Create a trigger zone that better matches a device whose movement differs from a traditional vertical tip-up flag.

Some non-standard fishing setups require a separate adapter. Do not assume the transmitter physically mounts to every rod, rattle reel, tip-down, or automatic hook-setting device without additional hardware.

Range & Receiver

BlueTipz Bluetooth Range & Optional Receiver

For the simplest setup, a BlueTipz MAX transmitter communicates directly with your smartphone. For larger fishing spreads, permanent ice houses, or locations where walls and other obstacles affect reception, an optional BlueTipz Receiver can be added.

Setup Manufacturer-Listed Range How It Works
BlueTipz MAX → Phone Up to approximately 1,000 ft Direct Bluetooth Low Energy communication
BlueTipz MAX + Receiver Manufacturer lists over 1,750 ft maximum system range Receiver is positioned between transmitter and phone to relay the signal
Receiver → Transmitter Approximately 600 ft Receiver listens for compatible BlueTipz transmitters
Receiver → Phone Approximately 600 ft Receiver relays alerts toward the phone

Standalone Alarm Option

The Receiver can blink and beep when it receives a BlueTipz strike signal, allowing it to provide an alert without relying only on a smartphone notification.

Range Booster

Position the Receiver between the Bluetooth tip up transmitters and phone to help extend the BlueTipz network.

Multiple Transmitters

One Receiver can listen for multiple compatible Blue Tipz transmitters.

Permanent Ice Houses

The Receiver can help improve wireless reliability in permanent ice shacks and other challenging environments.

The optional BlueTipz Receiver can provide audible and visual strike alerts while also extending the Bluetooth network.
Receiver batteries: The Receiver uses two AA batteries. Batteries are not included with the Receiver.

Published range is an ideal maximum, not a guaranteed radius. Physical obstructions, shelter construction, electronics, phone hardware, device placement, transmitter height, and battery condition can change real-world range.

App Setup

Set Up the BlueTipz Bluetooth Fishing Alarm App

The free BlueTipz app is available for compatible iOS and Android devices. Correct phone permissions are important because the phone must continue listening for Bluetooth tip-up alarm signals while you fish.

Android

  • Enable Bluetooth.
  • Allow BlueTipz notifications.
  • Allow the required location permission.
  • Make sure location services are enabled on the phone.
  • Configure battery optimization so the app can continue listening while the phone sleeps.

iPhone / iOS

  • Enable Bluetooth.
  • Allow required notifications and app permissions.
  • Make sure Do Not Disturb / Focus settings are not preventing the alert behavior you expect.

Test Your Tip Up Alarm Before Fishing

  1. Open BlueTipz and turn Scanning ON.
The app must be actively listening for BlueTipz devices.
  2. Select All Devices for the initial test.
This makes it easier to confirm that the transmitter is communicating correctly.
  3. Activate the transmitter.
Move it through its tip-up trigger position.
  4. Confirm the phone receives an alert.
Verify both the on-screen notification and desired audible alert before placing the device outside.
  5. Save your transmitters if desired.
Using My Devices lets you name transmitters and filter out other nearby BlueTipz units.
Fishing near other Blue Tipz users? Saving your transmitters under My Devices allows you to monitor only your equipment instead of receiving alerts from every BlueTipz transmitter within range.

Programming

Customize Your BlueTipz MAX Tip Up Alarm

The mobile app can change multiple transmitter settings, allowing one BlueTipz system to adapt to different ice-fishing setups.

Name Each Transmitter

Give each BlueTipz transmitter a unique name so you know exactly which hole or tip-up generated the alert.

Notification Tone

Choose a transmitter-specific alert tone or use the global alert selected in the BlueTipz settings.

LED Color

The MAX transmitter's multi-color LED can be programmed through the app.

Device Presets

Select presets such as Tip Up, Tip Down, or Rattle Reel instead of manually changing every setting.

Trigger Angle Zone

Adjust the accelerometer's activation zone to match how your particular fishing device moves when triggered.

Transmit Delay & Duration

Compatible transmitters allow the delay before transmission and the length of continued transmission to be adjusted.

Factory tip-up setting: Most traditional tip-up anglers can use the factory programming without changing the trigger-angle settings.

Fish Log

Track Blue Tipz Ice Fishing Activity With the Fish Log

The BlueTipz app does more than sound an alarm. Its Fish Log records notifications sent to your phone so you can review when tip-up activity occurred throughout the trip.

Automatic Alert History

BlueTipz notifications can appear in the Fish Log with the transmitter name, date, and time.

Track Bite Windows

Review your tip-up alarm history to help identify when fish activity increased or slowed down.

Add Catch Information

The app allows additional information to be saved to individual Fish Log entries.

Remove False Entries

An accidental trigger or non-fish activation can be removed from the Fish Log.

Alarm Comparison

BlueTipz vs. Other Ice Fishing Alarm Styles

Ice anglers searching for a tip-up alarm may encounter several different types of strike-alert systems. BlueTipz is specifically built around wireless Bluetooth movement detection.

Alarm Type How It Detects a Strike Typical Alert
BlueTipz Bluetooth Tip Up Alarm Programmable accelerometer detects movement of the fishing device Phone notification, transmitter LED, and optional Receiver alert
Basic Visual Tip-Up Mechanical flag rises Visual flag only
Traditional Audible Alarm Mechanical or electronic trigger Sound near the fishing device
Line-Based Fishing Alarm Detects fishing-line movement or tension Varies by product and design
Searching for a "Linealarm ice fishing line alarm"? That phrase generally describes a line-movement style fishing alarm. BlueTipz works differently: it detects the movement or angle of the compatible tip-up or fishing device itself and sends the strike alert through Bluetooth.

Battery & Storage

BlueTipz Battery, Winter Use & Storage

AAA Power

Each MAX transmitter uses one replaceable AAA battery.

Check Before Every Trip

Confirm the Bluetooth tip up alarm powers on and sends an alert before placing it out on the ice.

Cold Affects Batteries

Like other battery-powered electronics, available battery performance can decrease in very cold conditions.

Keep the Enclosure Secure

Make sure the battery area and weather-resistant enclosure are properly closed before winter use.

Dry Before Storage

Remove snow, slush, and surface moisture before storing the transmitter.

Long-Term Storage

For extended off-season storage, inspect the battery and transmitter before putting the system away.

Troubleshooting

BlueTipz Tip Up Alarm Not Working?

  1. Confirm the transmitter is powered on.
Check for expected LED behavior and verify the battery is installed correctly.
  2. Turn Bluetooth on.
Your phone must have Bluetooth enabled to receive BlueTipz transmissions.
  3. Open the BlueTipz app and turn Scanning ON.
The app must actively listen for transmitter signals.
  4. Temporarily scan for All Devices.
This helps determine whether My Devices filtering is preventing the alarm.
  5. Check phone notifications.
Make sure BlueTipz is permitted to display and play notifications.
  6. Check Android location permissions.
Location permission and phone location services may need to be enabled for proper Android operation.
  7. Check Android battery optimization.
Make sure aggressive battery-saving settings are not preventing the BlueTipz app from listening while the phone sleeps.
  8. Check Do Not Disturb / Focus settings.
These settings can prevent expected audible alerts.
  9. Move closer and test again.
If alerts resume at a shorter distance, the issue may be operating range or an obstruction rather than transmitter programming.
  10. Test the trigger angle.
A custom fishing setup may not be moving far enough into the programmed trigger-angle zone.

The BlueTipz MAX 22 is a Bluetooth tip up alarm that detects movement from a compatible tip-up or fishing device and sends a wireless strike alert to a compatible smartphone or BlueTipz Receiver.

What is the Blue Tipz tip up alarm?

Blue Tipz is a common spaced spelling of the BlueTipz brand. The current BlueTipz MAX 22 is a wireless Bluetooth strike-alert transmitter for compatible ice-fishing equipment.

Is BlueTipz a Bluetooth tip up?

BlueTipz is a transmitter that can turn a compatible traditional tip-up into a Bluetooth tip up alert system. The physical tip-up itself is not included.

Is BlueTipz a Bluetooth fishing alarm?

Yes. BlueTipz functions as a Bluetooth fishing alarm by using a programmable accelerometer to detect movement and send a strike notification wirelessly.

What is a Bluetooth ice fishing tip up?

A Bluetooth ice fishing tip up combines a traditional ice-fishing trigger or flag system with an electronic transmitter that sends strike activity to a nearby receiving device. BlueTipz MAX 22 provides that wireless alert capability for compatible tip-ups.

Is "Blue Tips" the same as BlueTipz?

If you searched for blue tips while looking for an ice-fishing tip-up alarm, the brand name is spelled BlueTipz. It is also commonly written as Blue Tipz.

What is Blue Tipz ice fishing?

Blue Tipz ice fishing products are wireless strike-alert devices designed to help anglers monitor compatible tip-ups and other fishing setups using Bluetooth notifications.

Does BlueTipz require Wi-Fi?

No. Strike-alert communication does not depend on a Wi-Fi network.

Do I need a smartphone?

A compatible iOS or Android phone can receive BlueTipz alerts directly. The optional BlueTipz Receiver can also blink and beep when a transmitter activates.

How far does the BlueTipz tip up alarm work?

The current MAX transmitter is manufacturer-rated for up to approximately 1,000 feet when communicating directly with a compatible smartphone under favorable conditions.

How far does BlueTipz work with the Receiver?

The MAX system is listed at over 1,750 feet when used with a compatible BlueTipz Receiver under favorable conditions. Practical range varies by environment and device placement.

What is the BlueTipz Receiver?

The Receiver is an optional accessory that can blink and beep when a transmitter activates and can also relay BlueTipz signals toward your phone to extend operating range.

Will one Receiver work with multiple transmitters?
