Aquatic Weed Harvester & Muck Dredge

Harvest Lake Weeds and Remove Bottom Muck With One Shoreline-Based System

The Neptune Rake is a heavy-duty aquatic weed harvester and muck dredge designed to remove submerged lake and pond vegetation, partially decomposed vegetation, sediment and bottom debris.

Instead of only cutting aquatic weeds, the rake travels across the lake or pond bottom, gathers rooted vegetation and collects muck and organic material during the same pass.

Up to 2,000 lbs Wet weeds and muck per pass
7+ ft Wide stainless steel rake
40" Rake depth

Two Jobs With One System

Harvest Aquatic Weeds While Dredging Muck and Sediment

Aquatic Weed Harvesting

Offset rake tines gather submerged aquatic vegetation and help pull rooted weeds from the lake or pond bottom.

Muck & Sediment Removal

As the rake travels across the bottom, it also gathers partially decomposed vegetation, sludge, organic debris and lake muck.

Shoreline Operation

The Neptune Rake is deployed from shore using its float, gather rope and pulling system instead of requiring a large harvesting boat.

  • Harvest lake weeds and dredge muck during the same operation
  • Remove up to one ton of wet aquatic vegetation and muck in a single pass
  • Reusable alternative to repeated commercial dredging
  • No aquatic herbicide required
  • Designed around a two-person shoreline operation

It’s More Than Just a BIG Rake.

The Neptune Rake System consists of:

  • A two-section marine grade stainless steel rake that is just over 7 feet wide x 40-inches deep.
  • A heavy-duty foam cell float that is 6.5 feet wide x 36-inches deep which tethers to the rake and serves as the deployment mechanism for the rake.
  • 650-feet of 12 mm sea steel winch and gather rope
  • An optional heavy-duty capstan winch powered by the dependable GX50 Honda gas engine. (see bottom of this page for winch details & specifications)

The Neptune Rake System is priced without the optional gas-powered capstan winch or ground anchor. Select those options separately when ordering if your installation requires them.

How It Works

Simple Operation. Big Results.

How to Operate the Neptune Rake

The float carries the rake to the treatment area. The rake then drops to the lake floor and is pulled back toward shore, collecting vegetation, muck and bottom debris.

Neptune Rake setup with gather rope winch rope float and shoreline anchor
1. Set Up

Lay out the gather rope toward the opposite shore. Secure the pulling system to a suitable tree or ground anchor and place the rake on its deployment float.

2. Position the Float

Pull the float and rake to the part of the pond or lake where harvesting and muck removal will begin.

3. Deploy the Rake

Pull the gather rope and winch rope as directed so the rake slides from the float and settles onto the lake floor.

4. Rake the Lake Bottom

Pull the rake across the bottom. Offset tines collect aquatic weeds while also gathering organic muck, sediment and debris.

5. Pull Ashore and Empty

Retrieve the loaded rake onto dry land. Two people tip the rake forward to unload the harvested weeds and muck before resetting the system for another pass.

Leaving removed aquatic vegetation beside the pond briefly gives mobile aquatic life an opportunity to return to the water before the harvested material is moved or disposed of.

Optional Equipment

Build Your Neptune Rake Setup

Optional Capstan Winch & Ground Anchor

The base Neptune Rake System does not include the capstan winch or ground anchor. Add them when your shoreline setup requires a dedicated pulling and anchoring system.

Optional Add-On

PCW4000 Gas-Powered Capstan Winch

The PCW4000 uses a Honda GX50 four-stroke engine and a centrifugal clutch. Rope movement controls the pulling action, while the rope-brake system helps hold the load when pulling stops.

Neptune Rake Ground Anchor

Use the ground anchor when a suitable tree or other natural anchoring point is unavailable near the shoreline.

The anchor provides a dedicated attachment location for the pulling setup and is intended for shorelines where a secure natural support cannot be used.

Before Operation

Confirm the anchor point, soil conditions, rope path and pulling load are suitable before retrieving a loaded rake.

FAQs

Common Questions

Neptune Rake FAQs

What makes the Neptune Rake unique among pond maintenance tools?

Neptune Rake combines aquatic weed harvesting and bottom-muck removal in one shoreline-operated system. The rake gathers rooted vegetation, organic debris and sediment during the same pass.

How much weed and muck can it remove per pass?

Under suitable conditions, the system is designed to retrieve up to roughly one ton, or 2,000 lbs, of wet vegetation and muck in a pass.

How difficult is it to transport and set up?

The rake separates into sections for easier transport. A normal two-person setup takes about 10 minutes once the equipment, ropes and anchor locations are ready.

What equipment is included in the kit?

The standard Weeders Digest configuration includes the stainless steel rake, closed-cell foam float and rope system. The Honda-powered capstan winch and ground anchor are optional selections and are not included in the base price.

Is it environmentally friendly?

Neptune Rake physically removes vegetation and bottom organic material without requiring aquatic herbicide. Removed material is brought back to shore rather than left in the water to decompose.

How much area can it cover per pass?

Coverage depends on the width of the water body, available rope length, anchor placement and site conditions. The rake itself is just over seven feet wide.

What kind of maintenance does it require?

Rinse the rake, inspect ropes and connections, and store the components properly after use. If you use the optional capstan winch, follow its engine and winch maintenance instructions.

How many people does it take to operate?

Two people are typically used for deployment, retrieval and dumping. Larger or more difficult sites benefit from an additional person.

How does its cost compare to commercial dredging?

Neptune Rake provides a reusable mechanical option for targeted vegetation and muck removal without bringing large commercial dredging machinery to the shoreline.

    Neptune Rake

Posted by Paul Fleming on 12th Oct 2025

Finally got the Neptune Rake in our mucky, weed filled lake! After a brief learning curve with the capstan winch, this rake hauled up lake muck and weeds. Illinois pond weed is the primary culprit on our lake, and the Neptune Rake hauled it up, roots and all! If you live on a lake with weeds (and/or muck) this beast is an excellent muck barge and weed remover; and, no chemicals required!
