FAQ

FAQs

How do I know which prop is right for my specific AquaThruster motor size?

Each motor size (1/2 HP, 3/4 HP, 1 HP, 2 HP) uses a specific prop. Check your original unit's user manual or contact Weeders Digest with your model to confirm compatibility.

What is the difference between the 2-blade and 4-blade props?

2-blade props are designed for the ½ HP and ¾ HP motors. 4-blade props are designed for the 1 HP motors. Remember, each model and horsepower has its own designated prop and you must add the correct prop that is designed for your exact model and horsepower.

Can I upgrade from a 2-blade to a 4-blade prop without damaging my motor?

No, each model and horsepower has its own designated prop and you must add the correct prop that is designed for your exact model.

Are the props universal between the AquaThruster and AquaBlaster?

No, each model and horsepower has its own designated prop and you must add the correct prop that is designed for your exact model.

Do I need any tools to replace the prop?

Yes. On the Metal Cage Aqua Thruster models, you'll need a 9/64” key to hold the shaft in place while spinning the old prop off and spinning the new prop on. On the new Sure Flo Cage Aqua Thruster models, you will need a 3/4 “ wrench or socket to replace your prop.

How often should props be replaced?

Typically once every 1–2 seasons depending on use. Replace sooner if you notice vibration, reduced thrust, or physical damage to the blades.

What material are the props made from?

They’re made of heavy-duty composite plastic that resists corrosion and impact from underwater debris like sticks and weeds.

Will a damaged prop affect water circulation or muck removal performance?

Yes. A cracked or chipped prop reduces thrust and can throw the unit out of balance, decreasing performance and potentially damaging the motor. Inspecting your unit a couple of times per season is highly recommended.

Can I use aftermarket or third-party props?

It's not recommended and it would also not be covered under warranty if you encountered performance issues. Each unit is tuned for specific pitch and balance.

Is there a performance difference between black and white props?

Color does not affect performance. Some colors may be used to designate blade type (2-blade vs. 4-blade), but functionally, they perform the same if matched to the right motor.

Broken Aqua Thruster Prop - 1 HP model

Posted by Barton Halling on 30th Jul 2019

We purchased an Aqua Thruster 1HP model in the Spring of 2018 and were very happy with its operation through June of 2019. At that time one of the blades on the propeller snapped off and 2 of the 3 metal straps holding the unit to the mounting bracket also broke. Had to replace the prop at a cost of almost $70, which seemed high for a plastic/composite prop with very thin blades. would have expected the unit to have a little better build quality for the price we paid. Weeders Digest staff sold us the new prop (which they had in stock) and provided new straps at no cost.

    Aqua Thruster Prop

Prop lasted about 1.5 before 2 of the fins were broken off by tree limbs, logs, etc. We have a lot of that in the water occasionally. The hard plastic will hit a branch and if it is strong enough, will break the blade off. When all four blades are working, the aquathruster produces a good current. Looks like I'll be buying a new blade every couple years. In mostly clear water, should last much longer.

    Aquathruster prop

Brilliant replacement design. Mine fell to the bottom of my pond and sheered the prop. Got a new one and it took less than a minute to take off the old one and put on the new one. It's enough to make a grown man cry.

I purchased this to move silt, gravel, and moss from boat slips so we can install boat lifts and keep slips clean. Works very well there is just a learning curve of how you need to position it and have it work. The product will do 90% of the work for you if you let it.
