FAQs

Q: Do I need to select the same power cord length option for both the AquaThruster Motor and the Oscillating Attachment?  Do they use the same, or separate cords?
A: They DO NOT use the same power cord. It is up to you which cord lengths to choose for each. The Oscillator cord does not have to be the same length as the AquaThruster.

Q: What are the power requirements for a 1 HP AquaThruster with 360 Oscillator?
A: The 1 HP AquaThruster with 360 Oscillator requires 110V power (but they each have their own power cord) and has an amp draw of 12.5 Amps. We also offer a 220V version of the 1 HP AquaThruster.

Q: Do you have mounting options available if I don’t want to put my AquaThruster on a dock?
A: Yes! We have a free standing frame that’s compatible with our AquaThruster motor, and if you want to utilize the 360 Oscillator, check out our 360 Bottom Frame Mount

Q: How powerful are the AquaThruster motors, really?
A: People are surprised by how powerful the motors are. Make sure to mount the system securely.

Q: At which angle should the thruster motor be pointed?
A: Slightly pointed up. This helps so that you do not dredge the lake bottom.

Q: Can I change the rotation timing and speed of the Oscillator?
A: Yes the AquaThruster is programmable from 0-359 degrees.

Q: Should I run the AquaThruster constantly, or should I limit the hours it runs each day.
A: Each lakefront owner’s situation is different, and the circumstances will dictate the hours you should operate your AquaThruster. Many users will operate their AquaThruster around the clock for a couple weeks, then reduce operating hours to a few hours each day.

Q: Should I point it out to deep water or towards shore?
A: You can do both depending on what you are using it for. Please call a sales representative for additional operational advice.

Q: How deep should I have the thruster motor?
A: At least 2-3’ of water depth, ideally 4’.

Q: How deep does it reach?
A: The pole goes down to 5’ water depth, but you can reach deeper by adjusting the angle of the motor.

Q: What size post will it fit?
A: The portable post mount bracket fits round, square, and rectangle posts up to 4” diameter.

Q: How quickly will I see results?
A: The AquaThruster will demonstrate its effectiveness on surface stagnation in minutes. Even when clearing water that has been washed into your shore, the results are shockingly fast.

Q: What time(s) of year can I use my AquaThruster?
A: Your AquaThruster can be used starting in the spring, and through the fall to the point where temperatures get close to freezing. Early season use oftentimes results in less weeds popping up in your area, and later season use helps prevent decomposing vegetation from forming a muck layer in your area. In addition, summer use helps to keep boat chop debris, algae, and duckweed from populating on your shoreline.

Q: How can I move it from one location to another quickly?
A: Our Portable Post Mount or Freestanding mounting options make it very quick and easy to relocate the AquaThruster. The Standard Dock Mount is the only mount that is more difficult to quickly move around because it needs to be bolted to your dock surface. We recommend purchasing an additional mount or two, plus our Quick Mount, if you need to move it around. The Quick Mount will allow you the flexibility of quickly releasing your unit from mount to mount in less than a minute.

Q: Can the AquaThruster help my specific needs and how do I know what size motor to purchase?
A: If you are unclear of what size and mounting are best for your specific needs contact us and we will assist you with the best configuration for your needs. Choosing the right size AquaThruster motor depends on what you're trying to accomplish, how large of an area you want clear, and how much muck, sludge, leaves or debris you have on the bottom of your lakefront. Our website contains a diagram which will give you a general idea of how the thrust power differs between each HP motor options.

Q: Can I attach it to a seawall?
A: Yes, please contact a sales representative for additional guidance.

Q: Is it portable with remote frame?
A: Yes. We offer freestanding mounting options allowing you to position wherever you like.

Q: Do I need to replace the prop?
A: Only if it breaks

Q: Do I need a GFI?
A: A GFCI is always advisable.

Q: Made in the USA?
A: Yes made in the USA.

Q: Can it be used while swimmers are present?
A: No we do not recommend using while swimmers are present.

Q: Isn’t it dangerous to operate an electric motor in the water?
A: Yes! The AquaThruster blower motors are tested by ETL to meet stringent UL and CSA standards for underwater use.

Q: What is the chain for?
A: The chain enables you to attach the power cord to the protective cage

AquaThruster 3/4 HP with dock mount.

Posted by Nancy S on 20th Apr 2021

This is an amazing tool that has solved a big problem for me. I live on a seepage lake and struggle dearly with lake levels when we don’t get much rain. Last summer I used a pressure washer to sink my boatlift as the level went down. It worked fine and I was able to use my boat all summer. The problem came when it was time to get the lift out in the Fall and not pretty. Now I can easily move muck/silt in no time. The only mistake I made was to not order the oscillator. I have now and will use it to maintain depth around my pier and boatlift.

3/4 hp Aqua Thruster and 360

Posted by Dan M on 20th Apr 2021

I have the 3/4 hp Aqua Thruster 360. Amazing is all I can say. After only 2 revolutions the bottom went from 18” of water with muck 2-3 feet deep to being able to see sand and pebbles at least 30 feet in all directions. We’ve also gained over 2 feet of water depth. Waiting for warmer water to see how the bottom is to walk on, we’ve not been able to enter the water previously in the area by the dock. If your thinking about this product, just buy it, it works!

    Best Thing Ever

Posted by Travis He on 15th Apr 2021

This thing is amazing!!! We had at least 3ft or more of muck. I ran this for a month straight, along my shoreline going back and forth and in and out as far as the 50ft cable could go while using the Lake Bottom Frame. I now have sand!!! A few improvements would be great however. 1) adding to the oscillation a z-wave remote app to remote control from a smartphone or tablet. I am big into home automation and use SmartThings to remote manage a lot of things at my cottage 2) upgrade the timer to be Z-wave as well to remote control the on/off schedule. I bought a GoControl WO15EWZ5-1 GFCI smart outlet and ran power to my shoreline. I can now control the on/off schedule and remote turn it off/on remotely at will. The outlet is like $45. You do need a home automation hub like SmartThings. 3) add a top mount stabilization bar to the free stand with the 360 oscillation add on. I have the 1hp thruster and man that thing has torque. It twists the oscillation pole as it rotated on the free standing mounting pole. I made my own out of 1 1/2 galvanized pipe. You need two T’s that are 1 1/2, two reducers to 3/4, and one 8 inch long 3/4 pipe. Then by a tap set and drill one hole in each T and screw in a set screw so the rig stays in place. It cost a total of $25 with all the parts listed above.

    Aqua Thruster 360

Posted by Randy B on 10th Apr 2021

Unlike many of the other reviews, we didn’t need algae blown away from the surface of our dock. We have, or I should say had, a serious “muck” problem. We live off an inlet to the Ohio river and sediment flows down nearby Kentucky hills and is deposited in from of our dock. Combined that with decaying leaves, tree branches and dead fish, we had a serious much problem. We purchased a *XYZ Muck Blower* about two years ago and after the second gasket leaked and blew the GFI we had had enough and started searching for a better product. We stumbled across the Aqua Thruster but was hung up on the $2500 cost (3/4 HP with 360 oscillator). We had paid less for the ^XYZ blower*. After about 5 months of going back and forth, we finally took a leap of faith and purchased the AquaThruster about 2 weeks ago. I can completely confirm that in that two weeks we have moved about 2-2.5 feet of muck from underneath our boat lift. This was just enough muck removed to get our new 30’ boat onto the lift just last night- which we were ecstatic about. If you are on the fence about this product, spend the money. I can confirm it does move muck and, while I’ve only had it two weeks, it seems to be a much built much better and a more reliable product than our previous experience. (WeedersDigest has removed the competitive product name and replaced it with the *XYZ* brand in this review)
