FAQs
RakeZilla Lake Weed Rake FAQs
What are the tines made from?
The 9” tines are made from a nearly indestructible ABS plastic.
Do you sell replacement tines if they break? How much do they cost?
Yes we sell replacement tines. That being said, the Rake Zilla teeth are nearly unbreakable when used properly. If a tine somehow breaks within the first 5 years of owning the rake let us know and we will send you a replacement for FREE.
Is the Rake zilla worth the investment for a small pond?
Even for a small pond, the Rakezilla can be a very worthwhile investment. Its efficiency means you'll spend less time on cleanup and more time enjoying your pond. The ability to both rake the bottom and skim the surface with one tool is a big advantage. Plus, its durable construction means it will last for many years, saving you from having to replace cheaper, less effective rakes. It’s a high-quality tool that makes a noticeable difference in the ease and effectiveness of your 'pond weed control'.
Are the rake teeth strong and sturdy?
Yes, the rake head is made of aluminum and is very durable.
How long are the tines on the Rake Zilla? Why are the tines curved?
The RakeZilla has 9” tines. The tines are curved to help keep weeds and algae on the rake when retrieving.
I have a very large area to clear. Is there a specific technique to using the Rake zilla to be most efficient?
For large areas, a systematic approach is best. Start by clearing a section closest to the shore and then work your way outwards. If you're using the rope, you can toss the rake out to its full length and pull it in, then move a few feet down the shoreline and repeat. This creates manageable piles of weeds that you can then easily scoop up with the rake.
For an even more efficient workflow, some people use a weed cutter first to slice through the vegetation and then use the Rake zilla to gather everything up.
Where is the Rake Zilla made?
The RakeZilla is a product of Lake Weeders Digest! We manufacture variety of the products to fulfill your order at our New Hope, MN facility.
How do I order if I want more than 11’ of RakeZilla handle?
Call one of our associates. We sell RakeZilla with two additional lengths of handle past the 11’.
How do I use the RakeZilla to skim and retrieve floating weeds?
Strap on the float with the included straps. Use the handle for close range skimming or attach the included rope for tossing and retrieving.
Check out this short video showing Rake Zilla being used to skim and collect using the rope and float.
Does the RakeZilla come with a rope?
Yes and it is 25’ long.
Will my RakeZilla rust?
No, the RakeZilla is constructed of aluminum and plastic which will not rust.
Will the Rake Zilla pull out growing weeds?
Yes, the RakeZilla can dig down and pull some types of weed stems and roots from the beach bottom. That being said, the rake is designed to rake and collect dead debris and weed sitting below and above the water. If your goal is to pull or cut weeds we suggest buying one of our weed cutters or pullers.
How sturdy are the rake tines?
The Rakezilla tines are designed and made of materials similar tines used in the agricultural industry. They are nearly unbreakable.
Is it easy to store this large rake?
The Rakezilla handle easily comes apart down into 4-foot extensions, making it portable and easy to store.
Can RakeZilla be used as a pond rake, seaweed rake, algae rake or hydrilla rake?
Yes. RakeZilla is designed as a versatile aquatic weed rake for lakes and ponds. It can function as a pond rake for submerged vegetation and debris, a seaweed rake for loose aquatic growth, an algae rake when used with the float for surface material, and a hydrilla rake for gathering cut or loose hydrilla. When dense weeds are still firmly rooted, use a dedicated weed cutter first and follow with RakeZilla to collect the vegetation.
How does Rake Zilla compare to the standard Lake Rake or Beach Rake?
The Rake Zilla has longer reinforced tines and a heavier build. It's better for dense, rooted vegetation like milfoil or coontail, while lighter rakes are better for surface algae and floating debris.
Can I use Rake Zilla to pull out muck or just weeds?
You can pull in light muck and decaying organic matter, but it’s not designed for deep muck dredging. It’s most effective on submerged weeds at or near the bottom.
Will it float if I drop it in the water?
No. Rake Zilla is not buoyant. It will sink. Always use the included rope or extension handle and secure your grip when deploying it. However, it does come with a float if you desire to use it to skim items on the surface.
What’s the total reach when fully extended?
With all handle extensions attached and the 25-foot rope, you can effectively reach out 20 to 25 feet from shore or dock, depending on water depth and technique.
Can I drag weeds toward me from a dock, or do I need to throw it from a boat?
Both methods work great! Most users toss it from shore or a dock and drag it back in. It's heavy enough to cut through underwater weeds without needing a boat.
Does it require assembly when delivered?
Yes, minor assembly is required and should only take you about 5-10 minutes. The preassembled rake head attaches to the pole, and rope clips to the handle. No special tools needed—just basic hand tightening.
Can it damage liners or shallow irrigation ponds?
Yes. Due to its heavy-duty tines, it's not recommended for use on rubber liners or shallow decorative ponds. This rake is designed for natural-bottom lakes and ponds.
Will it work on lily pads or cattails?
It can break and drag surface lily pads but won't remove their root systems. It’s not effective on cattails, which require cutting below the surface with rhizome removal tools.
Is it safe for kids or teens to use?
Due to its weight and the size of tines, adult supervision is recommended. It's not a toy and should be handled carefully to avoid injuries.
How should I store it to prevent rust or wear?
Rinse it with freshwater after each use, especially if used in weedy or algae-heavy water. Store indoors or off the ground to prevent the tines from bending and to avoid corrosion.

RakeZilla heavy duty lake rake with long tines
The RakeZilla works phenomenally well on Sag Pond Weed. Sag Pond Weed grows like grass with the roots intertwining and being up to about 4" deep. If Sag Pond Weed is pulled from the top, the weeds break off leaving the roots. The RakeZilla pulls out the roots. It is lightweight and easy to use and I really like the 11" extender because it allows me to remove weeds that are growing over my head.

RakeZilla works great
I’m impressed with RakeZilla. Does exactly what it’s designed to do. Light in weight but well constructed. I would recommend it.

Rakezilla
It is great for digging into lake bottom muck and dragging it up onto land. It does take a bit of effort, but it works as expected. To use if for skimming the top of the water, you may want to add a couple of more Velcro straps to better hold the foam noodle in place. I would definitely recommend this product.

Rakezilla is an awesome product.
Easy assembly & easy to throw into pond. Took about an hour to clean up debris around the perimeter of pond which is 90 ft in diameter. Tossing it out 15-20 ft to pull up debris. Have recommended to several friends.

Definitely worth the money
This rake is expensive but worth every dollar. It’s heavy. It’s effective. Added bonus, you’ll get in a cardio workout using this rake. It scorches the lake bottom. So clean. I recommend it.
