Robust-Aire™ systems pump compressed air from a shore-mounted compressor through self-weighted lines to a diffuser on the pond, lake or tank bottom. The diffuser then continuously releases micro-bubbles that rise to the surface carrying large volumes of water. This induces oxygen-transfer as well as beneficial water movement and mixing.

All Robust-Aire™ diffused aeration systems are available with an optional remote manifold allowing the compressor to be installed up to a mile away from the water’s edge.

FAQ

FAQs

How is diffused aeration different from surface aeration or fountains?

Diffused aeration releases air at the pond bottom, gently lifting low-oxygen water upward and allowing it to mix with oxygen-rich surface water, which reduces harmful stratification. This slow, continuous circulation spreads dissolved oxygen more evenly throughout the water column, improving overall water quality and supporting fish health.

What size pond or lake is each Robust-Aire system designed to handle?

Each diffuser can effectively aerate about 1 to 1.5 acres of water up to 50 feet deep. Larger systems with multiple diffusers are needed for larger or irregularly shaped ponds.

Can I install this without running electricity near the water?

Yes. The compressor is placed onshore and can be placed up to one mile away from the shoreline using a manifold and trenching pvc tubing back to the compressor.

Is the system quiet? Will it bother nearby homes or docks?

The compressor is housed in a weatherproof, sound-reducing cabinet. It operates quietly and is suitable for use near homes and cabins

Can I run the system year-round, including winter?

Yes. Robust-Aire is ideal for winter use. It helps keep a hole open in the ice, preventing fish kills by maintaining oxygen levels under the surface.

Is there a risk of stirring up muck or bottom debris?

Not if positioned correctly. The system is engineered to gently circulate upward through your entire water column.

Does the system need to be shut off at night or on a timer?

No. It’s designed to run 24/7 for maximum benefit. You can add a timer if desired, but continuous operation supports consistent water quality.

What maintenance does the system require?

Minimal. Clean or replace the air filter on the compressor annually and check diffusers if you notice reduced bubble output. The sure-sink tubing boasts a 15-year warranty and the diffuser boasts a lifetime warranty.

Can the diffusers be relocated after installation?

Yes. The weighted tubing allows you to reposition diffusers if needed, though it’s best to determine optimal placement ahead of time for consistent circulation.

Will the system help control algae or reduce muck?

Yes. The diffusers help keep algae under control by moving water and adding oxygen throughout the pond. When the water is always circulating, there are fewer still or stagnant areas where algae can grow. Circulation also keeps nutrients from sitting at the surface, where sunlight helps algae spread quickly.
