Description
Long Reach Lake Rake: Remove Lake Weeds, Algae & Shoreline Debris
The Long Reach Lake Rake is a versatile lake weed rake designed to collect floating vegetation, algae mats, leaves and unwanted debris from lakes, ponds, beaches and swimming areas, without requiring you to enter the water.
Featuring a 36-inch-wide aluminum rake head and an extended handle available in 11 ft or 16.5 ft configurations, this long handle rake helps you clean farther into the water while standing securely on your dock or shoreline.
Unlike an ordinary garden rake, this lake rake features a detachable float that lets you switch between raking the lake bottom and skimming floating weeds or algae from the water’s surface. The included 20-foot retrieval rope adds even more versatility: attach the rope, toss the rake into an open section of water, and pull it back to gather loose aquatic vegetation beyond the reach of the handle.
Whether you’re using it as a pond rake for shoreline cleanup, a floating algae rake for surface debris, or a long rake for maintaining your swimming area, the Long Reach Lake Rake provides multiple cleaning methods in one manual tool.
- 36" wide aluminum lake rake
- 11 ft or 16.5 ft handle
- Detachable float
- 20 ft retrieval rope
- Made in USA, 10-year warranty

One Lake Weed Rake. Three Ways to Clean.
Rake the Lake Bottom
Remove the float and pull the rake along the bottom to collect loose aquatic weeds, leaves and debris.
Skim Floating Weeds
Attach the float to keep the rake near the surface while gathering floating weeds, algae mats and cut vegetation.
Toss & Retrieve
Use the 20 ft rope to reach floating debris beyond the extended handle, then pull the rake toward shore.
Where to Use Your Long Handle Lake Rake
Docks & Boat Lifts
Collect loose aquatic weeds, leaves and floating debris that gather around docks and boat lift areas.
Lake Swimming Areas
Keep reachable swimming areas cleaner by gathering floating weeds and loose vegetation from the bottom.
Ponds & Water Features
Remove floating plant material and other reachable debris from pond edges.
Beach & Shoreline Areas
Remove washed-up weeds, leaves and loose organic debris from sandy waterfront areas.
A lake weed rake is especially useful after cutting rooted vegetation with an aquatic weed cutter such as WeedShear. Remove cut material from the water to keep it from collecting around your dock or beach.

How It Works
How the Long Reach Lake Weed Rake Works
The rake collects vegetation and debris as you pull its wide aluminum head through the water. Its removable float lets you choose whether to clean near the surface or along the bottom.
Bottom Raking
Without the float, lower the rake head toward the lake bottom and gather loose weeds, leaves and removable debris.
Surface Skimming
With the float attached, use the rake as a surface skimmer to collect floating algae mats, cut weeds and leaves.
Extended Retrieval
Attach the 20 ft rope to reach floating vegetation farther from shore than the handle alone can reach.
This lake rake works best with loose or previously cut aquatic weeds. If the plants are deeply rooted, use an aquatic weed cutter or root-pulling tool before collecting the material.
Handle Length Options
Choose Your Long Handle Rake Length
Two handle-length configurations let you choose the working reach that fits your shoreline or dock.
11 ft Standard Handle
Best for routine pond and lake maintenance when weeds and debris are relatively close to shore.
16.5 ft Extended Handle
Adds a 5.5 ft extension to make cleaning areas farther from shore or a dock more practical.
| Standard · 11 ft | Routine lakefront and pond-edge cleanup |
|---|---|
| Extended · 16.5 ft | Longer reaches from docks and shorelines |
The handle sections can be disconnected to make transporting and storing the tool easier.

FAQs
Long Reach Lake Rake Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about reach, attachments, uses and care.
What is a lake rake?
A manual tool for collecting aquatic weeds, algae, leaves and other loose debris from lake bottoms, swimming areas and shorelines. Some lake rakes include floats or retrieval ropes for surface collection.
What is a lake weed rake used for?
Gathering aquatic vegetation, especially loose plants or weeds that have already been cut. The Long Reach Lake Rake can also skim floating vegetation using its detachable float.
What is a long handle rake?
A rake with an extended handle to reach farther without moving as often. The Long Reach Lake Rake has 11 ft and 16.5 ft handle configurations for waterfront maintenance.
Can I use this as a pond rake?
Yes. It can collect floating algae, loose vegetation, leaves and other reachable debris near pond edges.
What is a long rake best for?
Reaching vegetation or debris farther from shore or a dock that would be difficult to reach with a short garden rake.
Are long rakes better for lake weed removal?
They can be useful for reaching weeds farther from shore. The best rake also depends on head width, tine design, whether the weeds are rooted, and the type of material being collected.
How wide is the Long Reach Lake Rake?
The rake head is 36 inches wide, providing a 3-foot collection path.
How long is the rake handle?
Choose an 11 ft standard handle or a 16.5 ft extended handle.
Can I extend the handle?
Yes. The extended configuration adds a 5.5 ft section for a total handle length of 16.5 ft.
Does this lake rake include a rope?
Yes. It includes a detachable 20 ft retrieval rope for collecting vegetation from farther away.
Does the rake come with a float?
Yes. The detachable float helps the rake collect floating weeds, algae mats and surface debris.
How does the detachable float work?
Attach the float to help keep the rake head near the surface. Remove it when you want to rake along the lake or pond bottom.
Can I use the rake to remove lake weeds?
Yes. It works well for collecting loose, detached or previously cut aquatic weeds. Deeply rooted vegetation may require a dedicated weed cutter or root-pulling tool first.
Can I use a lake rake to remove algae?
Yes. It can collect reachable mats of floating filamentous algae. It does not chemically treat algae or prevent future growth.
Can I use it to remove duckweed?
Some floating duckweed can be gathered, but very small plants may pass through the tines. A finer skimmer can be more effective for thorough duckweed collection.
Will the rake remove weeds by the roots?
It may pull some lightly attached plants, but it is primarily intended for collecting loose vegetation and debris. Rooted weeds are generally better handled with specialized cutting or pulling tools.
Can I use the Long Reach Lake Rake with WeedShear?
Yes. WeedShear cuts rooted aquatic weeds, and the lake weed rake collects the vegetation afterward.
Is it suitable for lake swimming areas?
Yes. It can help remove loose vegetation and debris from designated swimming areas when those areas are safely accessible.
Can I use the rake from my dock?
Yes. The extended handle provides additional reach from docks, and the rope helps with collecting more distant floating material.
Can I use it without getting into the water?
Yes. The long handle and detachable rope are useful for working from a secure dock or shoreline.
Is this pond rake suitable for beach maintenance?
Yes. It can gather leaves, loose weeds and organic debris from sandy waterfront areas and shallow water.
Is the rake made of aluminum?
Yes. The head and handle feature aluminum construction.
How many tines does the lake rake have?
The rake head has 36 tines.
How much does the rake weigh?
The product’s published descriptions contain differing assembled-weight figures. Contact Weeders Digest at 877-224-4899 for confirmation of the selected handle configuration.
How long are the rake tines?
Tine length is listed differently across published descriptions. Contact Weeders Digest if an exact measurement is important for your application.
Can I shorten the rake for storage?
Yes. The handle sections can be disconnected to make transportation and storage easier.
Will the rake work on a muddy lake bottom?
It can gather loose plants and debris from muddy areas, but it is not designed for deep muck excavation or dredging.
Can I toss the rake into the lake?
Yes. Secure the retrieval rope before tossing the rake into an open area. Keep people, boats and other obstacles clear.
Can I remove the float?
Yes. The float is detachable, allowing the rake to be used for both surface skimming and bottom raking.
Does it work after cutting lake weeds?
Yes. Collecting cut vegetation after mechanical weed removal is one of the primary uses for this rake.
Will a lake weed rake permanently prevent weeds?
No. A lake weed rake removes accessible vegetation and debris but does not necessarily eliminate roots or prevent regrowth.
Is the Long Reach Lake Rake made in the USA?
Yes. The product is described as made in the USA.
Does it include a warranty?
Yes. The rake comes with a stated 10-year warranty, subject to applicable terms.
Should I choose the 11 ft or 16.5 ft handle?
The 11 ft handle works well for routine shoreline maintenance. The 16.5 ft configuration gives you additional reach when weeds are farther from where you can safely stand.
Is this better than a regular garden rake?
For many waterfront tasks, the wider head, extended handle, removable float and retrieval rope are more useful than a standard short-handled garden rake.
Which other lake rakes should I compare?
Consider the Super Wide Lake Rake, RakeZilla and UltraLite Lake Rake. WeedShear is also useful when plants must be cut before collection.
How do I maintain the rake?
Rinse after use, remove trapped vegetation, inspect the tines and attachments, and allow components to dry before storage.
Where can I get help choosing a lake rake?
Call Weeders Digest at 877-224-4899 for help selecting the right rake, handle length or aquatic weed removal tool.

Long reach lake rake 16.5’
I am SO happy I decided to go ahead and purchase this rake. It has made an impossible job possible. Easy to assemble and lightweight, even this near 70 yr old woman can handle it! I’ve been using it to clean up the bottom of the pond. The rake has enabled me to reach where I couldn’t reach before but also has helped to take out those stubborn yellow irises that would’ve been impossible to get up without it. I was actually amazed how quickly I was able to do it. I thought it was going to have to hire someone. I heartily recommend it…and love that it’s made here in the USA! Delivery was prompt, too!

Long Reach Weed Rake
Wish the teeth were longer by about 2-3 inches or an option to purchase a spare rake head only to swap out as needed. Short teeth to start for getting matted muck out and then the longer teeth after the heavy stuff is pulled out.
-
Long Reach Lake Rake
Great complement to the weed cutter. Very effective in removing weeds near the deck or close in to shore. Also wonderful to rake out cut weeds floating on the surface.
-
Rake on the bottom works okay but could use weight inserts to make heavier to dig deeper.
Perhaps attachable weights or longer teeth could improve this product. Possibly turn teet in more at an angle might help with bottom material layers. It is easy to throw out which is great for an old guy like me!
